RECENT ADVANCES IN SOFT TISSUE, HEAD AND NECK PATHOLOGY AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY
Dr Justin Bishop is Professor and Jane B. and Edwin P. Jenevein, M.D. Chair in pathology and Chief of anatomic pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, USA. Dr. Bishop is an expert in the surgical pathology diagnosis of head and neck diseases, having published more than 250 journal articles and lectured extensively. Most recently Dr. Bishop was an editor for the WHO Classification of Head and Neck Tumors, and is the lead author of the AFIP Fascicle of Salivary Gland Tumors. He is editor-in-chief of Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology.
Andrew L. Folpe, M.D. Professor and Consultant at Division of Anatomic Pathology Mayo Clinic, Rochester
Dr. Folpe attended Amherst College (Amherst, MA) as an undergraduate, the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) as a medical student, and performed his residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Washington Medical Center (Seattle, WA). Dr. Folpe received additional fellowship training in Immunohistochemistry, under the direction of Dr. Allen Gown, and in Soft Tissue Pathology, under the direction of Dr. Sharon Weiss.
Dr. Folpe is the author of over 200 medical publications, principally in the areas of soft tissue pathology and diagnostic immunohistochemistry, the co-author of the 6th edition and 7th editions of Enzinger and Weiss’ Soft Tissue Tumors, co-author of Series 4 of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Fascicle on Soft Tissue Tumors, co-author of the 1st and 2nd editions of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology: A Volume in the Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology Series, and a member of the consensus conferences and editorial boards for the 3rd, 4th and 5th editions of the WHO Classification of Tumors of Soft Tissue and Bone. Dr. Folpe is Co-Chair of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Sarcoma Disease Group and Director of the Mayo Clinic Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology Fellowship. He is the Bone and Soft Tissue Associate Editor of Modern Pathology, also serves on the editorial boards of numerous other pathology and dermatopathology journals. Dr. Folpe has lectured widely on various aspects of soft tissue pathology and diagnostic immunohistochemistry.
In his spare time, Dr. Folpe enjoys spending time with his family and Australian Shepherds, and is an avid cyclist, hiker, and chef.
Dr. Hornick is the Director of Surgical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, and a consultant at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the 5th series of the AFIP fascicles. Dr. Hornick previously chaired the USCAP Education Committee, the USCAP Abstract Review Board and Assignment Committee, and the CAP Immunohistochemistry Committee and is currently on the USCAP Board of Directors.
Dr. Hornick was a member of the expert editorial board for the 4th (2013) and 5th (2020) editions of the WHO Classification of Tumors of Soft Tissue and Bone. He serves on the Anatomic Pathology Test Development and Advisory Committee for the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Hornick was a member of the Soft Tissue Sarcoma Expert Panel for the AJCC and the Sarcoma Analysis Working Group for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). He is President-Elect of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists.
Dr. Hornick serves on 14 editorial boards, including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology and Modern Pathology. He is an Associate Editor for Sternberg’s Diagnostic Surgical Pathology, a Regional Editor for Histopathology, an Associate Editor for Advances in Anatomic Pathology and Virchows Archives, and the Consulting Editor for Surgical Pathology Clinics.
Dr. Hornick has published over 500 original papers, review articles, and book chapters and edits the textbook Practical Soft Tissue Pathology: A Diagnostic Approach, which is in its 2nd edition. He received the 2012 Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists Annual Prize and the 2014 Jack Yardley Investigator Award from the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. Dr. Hornick sings and plays keyboards for a rock band.
